I moved to London from Toronto in my early twenties. I wanted to surround myself with British fashion, music and cute boys with English accents. It was around then that I started making my own beauty potions. I shared a flat with two gorgeous models. They always looked stunning and had the best products. Although I had no money I desperately tried to keep up with them. I would mix up my own blends of cleansers and toners. I would put them in empty Clarins and Biotherm containers. That way they looked expensive. Back then I believed that the more expensive something was, the better it would be! I still had a lot of learning to do.

Then I discovered “the oil”.

There was a little, old-fashioned chemist on South Molton Street. They sold some kooky and cheap products that you couldn’t find anywhere else. I loved that little drug store. They had an “eye oil” that came in a small glass bottle with a white lid. I kept it by my bedside and I put it under my eyes every night. It felt so good that I started to glide it all over my face. It would soak in so nicely. My skin would always feel good when I woke up. One day it wasn’t available any more. Oh the pain of discovering something you love has been discontinued! I tried other moisturizers but nothing was the same. Castor oil and mineral oil were too heavy. Nothing came close until I discovered The Body Shop. Back then they would sell little plastic containers of sweet almond oil, apricot oil and carrot oil. I never knew which was best so I would mix them all together. They felt great on my face. The carrot oil would leave an orange stain so I eventually eliminated that one. Over the years I have experimented with various oils but I have always stayed true to sweet apricot and almond oil. It wasn’t until I got my first iMac bubble computer in the 90’s that I discovered jojoba oil. It was the first internet purchase I had ever made and I have never stopped ordering it since that day.

After years of mixing, refining and trying again, again and again I developed Knockout Colours. They are all pure and natural and my husband Paul and I use them every day. My friends would ask me for them so I decided to make a label. Back when I first became a hypnotist Paul and I went to Boston to train with our friend and mentor Jerry Valley. That is when Jerry hypnotized me with his phenomenal voice. I remember the moment he said “You will see colours, knockout colours”. Somehow those words had a real, feel good effect on me. They took me somewhere. When I was thinking about what I should call my beauty potions, I immediately thought “Knockout Colours”. Knockout Colours are the colours in your mind that make you feel good and make you feel groovy.

I used basic knowledge, research, instinct, intuition, home remedies, folk lore, old wive’s tales and a lifetime of good and bad beauty tips to come up with my formulas. My motivation has always been the desire to look as fabulous as possible!
